On July 25th, 1978 Louise Joy Brown was born as the first successful infant conceived via In Vitro fertilization.
Today we celebrate how science has created options for family planning that transcend into “miracles.” Remember that IVF is still inaccessible to many people due to poor insurance coverage in the US, or in developing nations without adequate medical facilities.
Also, in an interesting note, the parents Lesley and John were not told that the procedure was basically an experiment with no results yet.
Reproductive freedom includes the option to use IVF, and it should be accessible and available to all people who want to procreate. Reproductive freedom includes informed consent. Always. No exceptions.
